We’re highly unlikely to be dealing with an international incident any time soon.
But it is noticeable that the Toronto Raptors just became the first NBA team outside of the United States to earn a championship.
Outside of their historical win over the Golden State Warriors, questions have arose over whether Toronto plans to visit United States President Donald Trump at the White House.
Raptors head coach Nick Nurse pretty much put an end to that speculation on Wednesday, indicating that they are Canada’s team and will visit prime minister Justin Trudeau. He also noted that the Raptors have not heard from President Trump.
This is only significant in that the past two NBA champions, the Golden State Warriors, have not visited Mr. Trump at the world’s most-known house.
To say that there’s been a rift between the President and those within the NBA would be an understatement. Some of the game’s top stars have spoken out against Trump’s policies. In turn, POTUS has responded.
Though, this really can’t be seen as a slight. The Raptors are not an American-based organization. It should be all about celebrating in Canada.
Then again, no one knows how President Trump will respond. After all, Canada and the United States don’t necessarily see eye-to-eye these days.
