Los Angeles Rams running back Todd Gurley was nearly invisible towards the end of the 2018 season and through the postseason.
It was reportedly an injury that kept Gurley limited some of the time. But during the playoffs, a supposedly healthy Gurley barely touched the ball.
It made for a very fishy situation.
Looking ahead, general manager Les Snead has weighed in on Gurley’s workload next year.
“I think where we have to go is to fast forward to now is with Todd, he’s had a lot of carries since he’s come in the league, a lot of yards, a lot of touchdowns things like that,” Snead said, per Kevin Patra of NFL.com. “Obviously, senior year, junior year, Georgia, (tore) the ACL, so over that time there’s an element of wear and tear and I think we have to determine in probably two stages: are we going to give him the amount of load that he’s had in the past or are we going to lessen that load to let’s say keep him fresher for the season and for the seasons beyond.”
Unfortunately, this is not exactly the news that fantasy football players want to hear.
This news also brings to mind the possibility of the Rams re-signing running back C.J. Anderson. When he filled in for Gurley, or split time with him, Anderson was an absolute beast late in the season and during and postseason.
Getting back to Gurley and his mileage, the All-Pro running back has averaged 307.3 touches per season. It is no wonder he has already racked up 6,430 scrimmage yards in just four seasons. This has come along with 56 touchdowns.
The Rams also extended Gurley’s contract last season, making him the highest-paid running back in the league. This makes Gurley an investment worth keeping healthy as long as possible.
