Raiders Las Vegas stadium lease approved

The future home of what will then be known as the Las Vegas Raiders

Unless something unforeseen happens, the Oakland Raiders will be calling Las Vegas home starting in 2020. There had been some question about whether the Raiders and the Las Vegas Vegas Stadium Authority would be able to come to terms on a lease for the new venue.

That can now be thrown completely out the window.

According to the Las Vegas Review-Journal, the Stadium Authority approved the lease by a unanimous 9-0 vote. This sets into motion the lease agreement being sent to the NFL for full approval during October’s owners meeting.

The NFL itself approved relocation of the Raiders from Oakland to Las Vegas earlier this year. And ground will soon break on the new $1.9 billion venue which is expected to be just off the strip. In fact, the Raiders just recently purchased the land where it will be built on.

At this point, there doesn’t seem to be anything holding the Raiders back from relocating to the desert metropolis for the 2020 season.

Interestingly enough, now that the Rams and Chargers stadium in Inglewood has been delayed for a season, all three west coast squads will have new digs open that year.
