QB A.J. McCarron signs with Battlehawks

Quarterback A.J. McCarron, recently released by the Cincinnati Bengals, signed with the St. Louis Battlehawks of the United Football League on Friday.

Contract terms were not announced.

McCarron, 33, played with the Battlehawks last season when they were a member of the XFL. Competitor leagues XFL and USFL merged to form the UFL.

He threw for an XFL-record 24 touchdowns, led the league with a 68.8 percent completion rate, and was second with 203 completions and 2,150 passing yards in 2023.

McCarron came to fame as the quarterback at Alabama, with which he posted a 36-4 record as a starter (2010-13) and won back-to-back BCS national championships.

A fifth-round draft pick in 2014, McCarron has appeared in 19 NFL games. He is 2-2 as a starter and has completed 63.1 percent of his passes for 1,192 yards with six touchdowns and three interceptions.

Following the XFL season last year, McCarron signed with the Bengals and was on the roster for six games.

The Battlehawks open their season March 30 at the Michigan Panthers.
