Pro Bowl edge rusher ‘open’ to signing with Kansas City Chiefs

We may be just weeks away from the start of training camp, but even teams like the defending Super Bowl champion Kansas City Chiefs still have needs. And there are plenty of veteran free agents still searching for a job.

One of the top NFL free agents available includes two-time Pro Bowl edge rusher Carlos Dunlap, who helped Andy Reid and Co. win Super Bowl LVII in February. But Dunlap’s contract expired after the big game, and he’s yet to receive much interest elsewhere.

But Dunlap, 34, is still looking to play another season, and there’s a sense that both the Chiefs and the pass rusher are open to a reunion ahead of training camp.

In a recent interview with Jeff Fedotin of Forbes.com, Dunlap revealed his plans to join a contender again this fall.

“I can help another team get one of their own or help the Chiefs again. The Chiefs haven’t ruled that out, but currently it’s a waiting game.”

Dunlap remaining available this late in the process may seem unusual, but it’s nothing new for the longtime NFL vet. After all, he didn’t latch on with the Chiefs until July of last season, meaning he still has plenty of time to get in gear.

After recording four sacks with the Chiefs a season ago, and 8.5 with the Seahawks the year prior, Dunlap has shown he can still get after the QB, and teams looking to do just that should have a certain level of interest in the sack specialist.
