The Portland Trail Blazers are interviewing Brooklyn Nets assistant Mike D’Antoni on Monday for their head coaching vacancy, ESPN reported.
D’Antoni, 70, is in his first season on Steve Nash’s staff in Brooklyn. The two-time NBA Coach of the Year owns a 672-527 record in 16 seasons as a head coach with the Houston Rockets, Los Angeles Lakers, New York Knicks, Phoenix Suns and Denver Nuggets.
The Trail Blazers also plan to interview Los Angeles Clippers assistant Chauncey Billups and San Antonio Spurs assistant Becky Hammon this week, per the report.
Portland parted ways with Terry Stotts earlier this month. Stotts, 63, is the second-winningest coach in franchise history with a 402-318 mark, behind only Jack Ramsay. He led Portland to eight consecutive playoff appearances.
Blazers star Damian Lillard has expressed that he wants the new hire to meet his approval. Lillard listed Lakers assistant Jason Kidd as a candidate he’d endorse, but Kidd pulled his named out of the running.
