The Pittsburgh Steelers have held training camp at St. Vincent College every summer since 1966. That streak is about to come to an end.

Steelers will hold 2020 training camp at Heinz Field

Burt Lauten, the Director of Public Relations for the Steelers, shared Monday that the franchise is making plans to hold training camp at Heinz Field this summer.

Heinz Field, of course, is where the Steelers play games on Sundays. It hasn’t been used to host training camp — ever. There is a good reason for this change, though.

NFL issued strict social distancing guidelines

On Monday, the NFL and NFLPA shared a joint memo detailing strict social distancing guidelines for NFL locker rooms and facilities. This memo was sent out ahead of players being allowed back to team facilities.

The details of the memo are pretty crazy. The main challenge will be having enough space in locker rooms to keep every player and coach six feet apart. This challenge likely has a lot to do with the Steelers using Heinz Field to host training camp this season.

Most players will still remain away from team facilities until training camp opens up in mid-July.
