Phillies All-Star Jean Segura leaves game with hamstring injury

Steve Mitchell-USA TODAY Sports

Already facing long odds to earn a playoff spot, the Philadelphia Phillies might have to play the remainder of the season without All-Star shortstop Jean Segura.

The veteran left Thursday’s game against the Atlanta Braves in the sixth inning with an apparent hamstring injury.

While there’s no further word on the extent of the injury, this can’t be seen as great news for Philadelphia.

Segura, 29, boasts the best batting average of any regular member of the Phillies’ lineup (.283) and has hit 12 homers to go with 58 RBI.

Philadelphia entered Thursday’s action against Atlanta at 78-72 and three games out of the final wild card spot in the National League.
