Philadelphia Eagles head coach Nick Sirianni is doing everything possible to make sure that his stint with the organization is not short-lived.

Sirianni found himself firmly on the hot seat after the Eagles’ disasterclass of an end to the 2023 campaign. They lost five of six to conclude the regular season before being blown out by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the NFL Wild Card Playoffs.

While Sirianni’s job is safe for now after a meeting with owner Jeffrey Lurie, he’s scrambling to find new coordinators on both sides of the ball.

On the very same day that Philadelphia fired offensive coordinator Brian Johnson, it has now brought in another embattled name. According to Mike Garafolo of NFL Media, the Eagles have interviewed current USC offensive assistant Kliff Kingsbury for their offensive coordinator job.

Kingsbury, 44, was the Arizona Cardinals head coach from 2019-22. His tenure with that organization came to a disastrous end with the Cards posting a 4-13 record in his final season in the desert. A rift with quarterback Kyler Murray also played a role in Kingsbury’s demise.

Most recently, he worked under Lincoln Riley with the USC Trojans this past season. In addition to the Eagles, Kingsbury is said to be a candidate for offensive coordinator openings with the Chicago Bears and Las Vegas Raiders.

Sirianni is certainly seeking an experienced play-caller for the offensive side of the ball. Kingsbury would bring that to the table. But given the drama we saw unfold late last season in Philadelphia, it remains a questionable fit.

This also comes on the heels of the Eagles showing interest in former Washington Commanders head coach Ron Rivera to be their defensive coordinator. Rivera was fired by Washington after posting an ugly 4-13 mark this past season.

He does have experience as a defensive coordinator with the Chicago Bears (2004-06) and then-San Diego Chargers (2008-10).

There is one big question we have to raise after these most-recent reports. What exactly does Sirianni do if he’s seeking these experienced play-callers on both sides of the ball? It’s a fair question to ask.
