Dallas Goedert’s time could be running short with the reigning Super Bowl champion Philadelphia Eagles.
The 30-year-old, whom the Birds selected in the second round of the 2018 NFL Draft, has been a productive tight end in his seven seasons, recording 4,085 receiving yards on 349 receptions and 24 touchdowns. He’s also a superior run blocker.
However, the biggest ding on Goedert’s resume is his durability as he’s missed 22 games since the 2020 season, including seven last year.
Goedert has a cap hit of $12 million for 2025, but if the Eagles designate him as a post-June 1 cut, they could clear $6.6 million in cap space, according to Bleeding Green Nation. Goedert won’t become a free agent until after the 2025 season.

Philadelphia Eagles meet with top tight end prospect at NFL scouting combine

According to The Philadelphia Inquirer’s Devin Jackson, the Eagles met with Texas Longhorns tight end Gunnar Helm at the NFL Scouting Combine in Indianapolis. Helm is one of the better tight ends in the draft and is expected to be a mid-round pick.
Helm, who stands at 6-foot-5 and weighs 250 pounds, told the Inquirer that he enjoyed his meeting with the Eagles and that he sees similarities between himself and backup tight end Grant Calcaterra.
“I think my body is pretty similar to Calcaterra, I love watching him. I love watching Dallas Goedert. Obviously, he’s been with the Eagles for a long time,” Helm said to Jackson. “I like to say I take a lot of stuff from his game when I watch him on film. To be able to learn from Dallas Goedert and from Calcaterra and that offense, and be able to play alongside guys like Jalen Hurts, Saquon Barkley, and block for guys like that, I think it would be a blessing in itself.”
During his senior season at Texas, Helm had 60 receptions for 786 yards and seven touchdowns. ESPN draft guru Mel Kiper has Helm as his sixth-ranked tight end prospect.
“Adding Helm to the tight ends group would give the Eagles a quality receiving option who brings similar characteristics that Goedert adds to the offense as a seam-stretcher with the ability to find soft spots in zone coverage and provide some run-after-catch ability,” Jackson wrote.
The Eagles will most likely draft a tight end to be Goedert’s heir apparent and keep the veteran around for one final season before he hits free agency.
