Not only did the Seattle Seahawks fall to the Los Angeles Rams in blowout fashion Sunday night, they lost a key contributor for what will likely be the remainder of the season.

Second-year running back Rashaad Penny went down early in the first quarter with what looked to be a serious knee injury.

Seattle head coach Pete Carroll all but confirmed that after the game, noting that Penny has a significant ACL injury.

A sprain would keep Penny out for the remainder of the regular season and potentially the wildcard round.

This is no small thing. By virtue of their loss on Sunday, the Hawks dropped from the top seed to the fifth seed in the NFC Playoff race. Not having Penny for the remainder of the regular season could loom large. Further tests will tell us more about how significant the injury is.

Having put up 203 yards and three total touchdowns in the two games heading into Week 14, the former first-round pick was just now hitting his stride. It’s highly unfortunate.
