As the hours tick down and trade rumors fly before the NBA trade deadline, New Orleans Pelicans point guard Jrue Holiday remains the top player on the market. As of now, though, the Pelicans star guard appears highly unlikely to be traded.
According to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski, the Pelicans remain content with their star guard remaining with the team past Thursday’s trade deadline. If Holiday is going to be traded by Thursday it would reportedly take an overwhelming offer that has yet to come.
New Orleans is in the perfect position where it can sit back and still be happy within the front office. Holiday wants to stay with the Pelicans and the team still holds an outside shot at making a run for the No. 8 seed with Zion Williamson and Brandon Ingram now healthy.
While teams like the Miami Heat have expressed significant interest in the 29-year-old guard, no team is coming close to meeting the Pelicans’ asking price.
Holiday is under contract for the next two seasons for $53 million total and he holds a $27.1 million option for the 2021’22 season. Given how well he is playing, averaging 19.4 points and 6.3 assists per game, it appears unlikely that he is wearing another uniform after Thursday.
