The New England Patriots are going to have to get creative in order to become buyers in free agency later this month. Heck, the defending champs have a ton of core free agents they need to retain.
Among them, wide receiver Chris Hogan is reportedly already in talks to re-sign with New England.
Patriots have been in talks with WR Chris Hogan about a new deal, per source. Hogan was pleased to have an integral role on the field in 2018, even if he wasn’t seeing a lot of targets.

Given the free agent status of Cordarrelle Patterson and Phillip Dorsett as well as Josh Gordon’s continued off-field struggles, this shouldn’t be a major surprise.
Hogan would likely come cheap. He put up just 35 receptions for 532 yards and three touchdowns for New England last season.
Making a move to retain Hogan would not have any real impact when it comes to the Patriots’ off-season plans at receiver.
They still need to add at least one proven body to the mix for Tom Brady moving forward. Add in the draft, and this position could be in the midst of an overhaul in New England. Hogan might be one of the few holdovers should something happen before free agency.
