Three-time Super Bowl champion Ryan Allen had to know that he was nearing the end of his New England Patriots career when they selected Stanford punter Jake Bailey in the fifth round of April’s draft.
That’s now come to fruition. The Patriots announced on Tuesday that they have released Allen after six seasons with the team.
An undrafted free agent out of Louisiana Tech back in 2013, Allen had punted in each game for the Patriots over the course of his six-year career. He’s also earned three Super Bowl titles with the team.
Allen, 29, averaged 45.3 yards per punt in New England. He should find a job in relatively short order.
