Packers reportedly will sign DE Muhammad Wilkerson

Muhammad Wilkerson

The Green Bay Packers are reeling in another big fish. After landing tight end Jimmy Graham Tuesday, a new report by Rob Demovsky of ESPN has them signing defensive end Muhammad Wilkerson.

Wilkerson had interest from a number of teams, so the fact that Packers general manager Brian Gutekunst was able to convince him to come to Green Bay shows the culture truly is changing there as it concerns free agency.

When healthy and motivated, Wilkerson is an extremely effective, disruptive 3-4 defensive end. He had an awful season last year with the New York Jets and actually missed a road trip due to landing in Todd Bowles’ doghouse.

Still, this is a player who racked up 28.5 sacks between 2013-15, and it’s likely his contract with Green Bay will be full of incentives to ensure he stays motivated. If he does, and stays healthy, then Wilkerson will be a tremendous addition to the front seven of Green Bay’s defense.
