The Indiana Pacers announced on Thursday what pretty much every one figured was inevitable the night before.
All-Star guard Victor Oladipo will soon undergo season-ending surgery on a ruptured quad tendon in his right knee.
“Victor Oladipo underwent an MRI Thursday that revealed he has a ruptured quad tendon in his right knee, sustained with 4:05 to play in the second quarter of Wednesday night’s game against Toronto,” the team announced, via its official website. “He will undergo surgery at a date to be determined and will be out for the season. Further updates will be provided as warranted.”
This type of injury could prove to be disabling for Oladipo moving forward. It requires months of physical therapy following surgery and is a long-term injury.
Oladipo suffered said injury Wednesday night against the Raptors. The play itself was about as ugly as it gets. Immediately after Oladipo was stretchered off the court, reports surfaced that it was a serious injury. At that point, NBA stars the world over sent their support to Vic via social media.
Acquired in the blockbuster Paul George trade prior to last season, Oladipo has been a true star in Indiana. He earned an All-Star appearance last season and was averaging north of 19 points per game in 2018-19 prior to suffering said injury.
