The San Francisco 49ers head into Sunday’s game against the Atlanta Falcons awfully banged up, and over half of the team’s starting defense has been ruled out.
As noted by Jennifer Lee Chan of NBC Sports Bay Area, these six defensive players have been ruled out due to injuries:
- Richard Sherman, cornerback
- Dee Ford, defensive end
- D.J. Jones, defensive tackle
- Jaquiski Tartt, safety
- Jullian Taylor, defensive tackle
- K’Waun Williams, cornerback
And that’s with starting linebacker Kwon Alexander already out for the season with his pectoral injury.
That’s a heck of a lot of talent that won’t be suiting up for the current No. 1 seed in the NFC. Thankfully for the 49ers, they have a lot of depth defensively and may have enough firepower on offense to make up for any significant lapses on the defensive side of the ball.
San Francisco (11-2) will host Atlanta (4-9) at Levi’s Stadium at 4:25 p.m. ET on Sunday.
