Orlando City SC acquired forward Facundo Torres of Uruguay on Monday and signed him to a four-year contract with a club option for the 2026 season.
Torres, 21, will join the Lions as a Young Designated Player. Terms were not released, but the Orlando Sentinel reported Saturday that the Lions paid a club-record $7.5 million fee and $1.5 million in bonuses to acquire his full rights from Club Atletico Penarol.
“Facundo is a young player with a lot of potential and upside, and he is just beginning to make waves on the international stage,” Orlando City general manager Luiz Muzzi said in a release. “The danger that he creates on attack will be a real asset on the offensive end and we’re excited for him to step on the field in purple.”
The signing is pending the receipt of his P-1 Visa, ITC and medical evaluation.
