Baltimore Orioles right-handed pitching prospect Grayson Rodriguez could miss the rest of the 2022 season with a Grade 2 right lat strain, general manager Mike Elias told reporters Sunday.

Rodriguez sustained the injury on Wednesday.

“The good news is this an injury that we have a very, very high degree of confidence that is going to heal,” Elias said. “He’ll be back to himself in no time. At the very least to put himself in position to join the rotation right out of spring training. That’s the hope.”

Rodriguez, 22, was a first-round pick by the Orioles in the 2018 draft. He was 5-1 with a 2.09 ERA in 11 starts this season for Triple-A Norfolk.
