Orioles challenging Marlins for attendance futility

The Baltimore Orioles might have drawn a nice crowd at Camden Yards for their home opening series against the New York Yankees this past weekend. But let’s be honest, that was more about the Yankees than the downtrodden Orioles.

This became relatively clear during Baltimore’s Monday night game against the Oakland Athletics. Attendance for that game was announced at 6,585.

This comes very close to challenging the Miami Marlins’ season-low mark in a game against the New York Mets earlier in the season.

It’s some pretty bad optics for an Orioles team that’s coming off a 115-loss 2018 campaign.

Even after making the playoffs, the A’s are not considered a great road draw. That’s understood. But seeing less than 6,600 in attendance is just ugly for the Orioles.

Baltimore drew the fourth-lowest attendance in baseball last season. It’s looking like much of the same in 2019. Ouch!
