As teams continue scrambling for their next quarterback, Lane Kiffin and the Ole Miss Rebels are focused on other goals, knowing Jaxson Dart has the offense under control.
On Sunday, the No. 1 overall transfer portal recruit, defensive lineman Walter Nolen, announced his commitment to Ole Miss after considering offers from Oregon and several others. Nolen, a 6-foot-4, 290-pound Mississippi native, now gets to play closer to home.
Nolen previously played for the Texas A&M Aggies, where he racked up 37 tackles (8.5 for loss) and four sacks across 12 games as a sophomore last season. Back in 2022, Nolen headlined what ranked as the No. 1 recruiting class in the nation, but now he’ll look to take the Ole Miss defense to the next level.
The Rebels ranked 41st in points allowed in 2023 while leading a 10-2 record. Compared to the Aggies, who had the 34th-ranked scoring defense yet won just seven games, Nolen may have a better chance at playing in big bowl games in the near future.
