Notable players with as many rushing yards as DeMarco Murray

Considering the star running back has managed just 11 yards on 21 carries, DeMarco Murray’s first two games with the Philadelphia Eagles certainly haven’t gone as planned or expected.

He’ll likely turn it around in the coming weeks, but through two weeks of the 2015 NFL season, a handful of players who won’t remain higher than Murray on the yardage list—quite humorously—are there right now.

Quarterbacks

Keep in mind that sacks do not negatively affect rushing yards. With that being said, 21 quarterbacks—just six of whom are considered dual-threat guys—currently have more rushing yards than Murray. Eli Manning (31), Josh McCown (23), Ryan Mallett (12), Carson Palmer (12) are among the comical names, while Tony Romo and Andy Dalton have each managed 11. Eagles quarterback Sam Bradford only has nine, so at least Murray’s got that goin’ for him.

Running Backs

Obviously, there’s a very strong number of running backs who have more yards, since that’s kind of their job. Nevertheless, 37 players with fewer than Murray’s 21 carries have been more impactful this season. A collection of third-string backs—like Jonathan Grimes (35), Jacquizz Rodgers (24), Matt Asiata (12)—are above Murray, and America’s Australian darling Jarryd Hayne has 16 yards on six attempts.

Wide Receivers

Murray and Julian Edelman (21) both ran for nine yards in their 2015 debuts, and Edelman racked up 12 more compared to Murray’s two on Sunday. Tavon Austin (57), Jairus Wright (29), Jarvis Landry (20), Percy Harvin (16) and Marqise Lee (12) each have a better standing than Murray. Dwayne Harris (11) is locked into a battle for supremacy, though the New York Giants wideout has 20 fewer carries.

Tight Ends

A tight end?! Really? Really. During Week 1 of the season, Green Bay Packers tight end Richard Rodgers received a flip pass from Aaron Rodgers, and the 11-yard gain was officially recorded as a run. So, yes, Murray is tied with a tight end in the category. Barring a gadget play that utilizes a defensive player, it doesn’t get funnier than that.

Best wishes moving forward, DeMarco.

No, like literally as you attempt to move forward, because six of your carries have resulted in negative yardage. Hopefully, it can only get better.
