Northeastern’s athletic teams will play home games without spectators beginning Sunday amid a spike in COVID-19.
“The decision was made out of an abundance of caution due to an increase in the number of COVID-19 cases on the Boston campus, primarily in the student population, including some cases of the Omicron variant,” the university said in a news release Friday.
Among the first events to be impacted are a pair of basketball games scheduled to be played Sunday: the men’s team vs. Vermont at 1 p.m., followed by the women’s team against Harvard at 4 p.m.
Northeastern is offering ticket holders refunds or admission to future games.
