Surveillance video shows no actual evidence Philadelphia 76ers’ Kelly Oubre suffered hit-and-run

In the aftermath of the James Harden trade to the Philadelphia 76ers, Kelly Oubre stepped up, becoming a valuable scorer as the team got out to a hot 7-1 start while averaging 16.3 points per game.

Then on November 11, Oubre reportedly was struck by a hit-and-run driver, causing the ninth-year NBA veteran to be evaluated at a local Philadelphia hospital, where he’d be treated for a broken rib and later released. In addition to the rib injury, Oubre also suffered several bruises and abrasions.

These injuries have forced Oubre out of action for the past two 76ers’ games, and he’s set to be re-evaluated in roughly a week. Nicolas Batum has taken over Oubre’s place in the starting lineup, with Robert Covington also receiving additional playing time in Philadelphia.

While Oubre is out for the foreseeable future, there’s now some question as to how the 76ers’ swingman actually suffered the injury. More accurately, the confusion stems from trying to determine the actual location.

According to the Philadelphia police department, the surveillance footage doesn’t show any visual evidence of Oubre suffering a hit-and-run at the Center City intersection, where he reported the incident.

“The Police Department currently does not have any video or photographic evidence that depicts this collision. We continue to work in hopes of gathering evidence and we encourage anyone who has information to reach out to our crash investigation unit.”

Two employees of nearby businesses also looked back at their surveillance tapes and were unable to find any car crash occurring at the intersection either.

Oubre has not been accused of anything, but an investigation into the matter is still underway.

One obvious possibility could be that Oubre simply misunderstood the location of the accident. He just signed with the team on Sept. 26, and according to The Philadelphia Inquirer, only recently moved to a Center City apartment nearby.

Later, TMZ Sports obtained video footage of Oubre arriving at his Philadelphia apartment, where he could be seen wincing shortly after the accident. The authorities are still determining the location of the incident, and the investigation is still ongoing.
