San Francisco 49ers pass rusher and reigning NFL Defensive Player of the Year Nick Bosa is in line for a contract extension ahead of training camp.
Said contract will likely make Bosa the highest-paid non-quarterback in NFL history. Throughout pretty much the entire offseason, confidence has been high that something will get done. Generally, the 49ers extend star players leading up to training camp in July.
In talking to the media on Tuesday, Bosa made it more than clear that he expects something to get done.
“It’s pretty high,” Bosa said when asked about his confidence level that a contract will get done soon. “I think I am pretty confident about that. I think I’ll get what I deserve.”
The No. 2 overall pick of San Francisco back in the 2019 NFL Draft, Bosa has morphed into one of the best all-around players in the game. His performance this past season was a prime example of that.

As one of the most dominant edge guys in a pass-first NFL, Bosa knows very well that he’s going to get paid. Meanwhile, the 49ers’ brass has also been clear that something should get done ahead of the 2023 season.
“I feel really confident. It’s hard for me. I want things done now. I always challenge that. Why can’t we? He wants to be here, we want him. Deadlines tend to drive these things, but our track record is — we get them done.”

It was also noted earlier this offseason that an extension will be finalized by late-July. Again, this seems to fit previous timelines for the 49ers to extend star players.
Wide receiver Deebo Samuel inked his three-year, $71.55 million extension back on July 31 of 2022. All-Pro linebacker Fred Warner signed a five-year extension in July of 2021 while George Kittle’s deal came in August of 2020.
As for what a Nick Bosa contract extension might look like, it’s not terribly complicated in the grand scheme of things. His average annual salary will surpass the $31.67 million Aaron Donald is earning with the Los Angeles Rams. He remains the highest-paid non-quarterback in NFL history.
