The Washington Capitals announced that forward Pierre-Luc Dubois will miss 3-4 months due to his lower-body injury. According to Sammi Silber of The Hockey News, Dubois underwent surgery to address injuries to his abdominal and adductor muscles.
Dubois went down with an injury in the Capitals’ Oct. 31 home loss to the New York Islanders. His knee buckled on a defensive zone faceoff as he fell to the ice in visible pain. The 27-year-old had to be helped off the ice and could not put much weight on his leg.
Capitals head coach Spencer Carbery previously announced that Dubois would miss an “extended period” of time due to his injury.
Dubois has been a key contributor in his Capitals tenure, as his long absence will most likely affect the team as they attempt to make it back to the playoffs. The Capitals have already gone 1-2-1 since his lower-body injury.
The forward has appeared in just five full games this season, as he had dealt with an unrelated upper-body injury early on. He has yet to record his first point, with his only stats being nine shots on goal and six hits.
Dubois was traded to the Capitals in the 2024 offseason and made his presence known the following season. He recorded 20 goals and 66 points while playing as the second-line center for all 82 games.
Dubois also finished the 2024-25 season with a plus-minus of 27, which was a massive improvement after recording a negative plus-minus in four of his previous five seasons.
