Washington Capitals netminder Logan Thompson made his Olympic debut for Team Canada on Friday. He made quite the impression on an international stage as he stopped 24 of 25 shots in Canada’s 5-1 win over Switzerland.

Thompson made several key saves, including on a 2-on-1 for Switzerland against Philipp Kurashev in the middle frame. The 28-year-old then stepped up with multiple power-play stops in the third period.

The only goal Thompson surrendered came from Pius Suter on the power play in the first. The puck went off the crossbar and Suter rebounded the puck in for the Swiss tally.

Nevertheless, it was a strong Olympic debut for Thompson as he finished with a .960 save percentage.

Meanwhile, Tom Wilson made his second appearance for Team Canada and recorded his first Olympic point. It was a secondary assist on Thomas Harley’s goal in the opening period.

While in the offensive zone, Wilson passed the puck back to Connor McDavid, who found Harley to make it 2-0. The 31-year-old finished with an assist and a plus-1 rating through 9:43 of ice time on Friday.

Along with Harley, McDavid, Macklin Celebrini, Sidney Crosby, and Nathan MacKinnon also scored for Canada.

Towards the end of the game, Wilson collided with Switzerland’s Kevin Fiala along the boards as the two got tangled up. Fiala ended up leaving the game on a stretcher.

With the win, Canada now moves to 2-0-0 in group play and will face Germany on Saturday.
