Capitals Training CampCredit: Harry Lichtman

The Washington Capitals once again made roster cuts on Friday morning. The team’s roster has now been trimmed to 27 players with one preseason game left.

Five players have been loaned to the AHL’s Hershey Bears. Forwards Andrew Cristall, Ilya Protas, and Eriks Mateiko were all loaned to the Bears. Defensemen Ryan Chesley and Leon Muggli will also suit up for Hershey.

Cristall, 20, had a standout training camp and recorded four preseason goals. He will get more time to develop in the AHL before making the leap to the NHL.

Meanwhile, forward Sheldon Rempal was also cut but is a different story. He was placed on waivers for the purpose of a loan to Hershey.

The Capitals host the Columbus Blue Jackets in their sixth and final preseason game on Saturday at 7 p.m.
