The Washington Capitals made two more moves as the NHL trade deadline ended on Friday afternoon. The team acquired San Jose Sharks defenseman Timothy Liljegren and Vancouver Canucks forward David Kampf.
TSN’s Chris Johnson reported the Liljegren trade, while TSN’s Darren Dreger reported on Kampf. The Capitals used a 2026 fourth-round pick (from Vegas) for Liljegren, and a sixth-round pick for Kampf.
Liljegren, 26, has 11 points (1 goal, 10 assists) in 43 games with San Jose this season. The 6-foot, 198-pound defenseman also has a plus/minus rating of minus-7, as he gets set to replace John Carlson.
Liljegren ranks second among Sharks defensemen in blocks (83) and has averaged a career-high 20:08 ice time per game. The 26-year-old is set to be an unrestricted free agent at the end of this season, and carries a cap hit of $3 million.
The Kristianstad, Sweden native was originally selected by Toronto in the first round (17th overall) of the 2017 NHL Draft.
Kampf, 31, started the 2025-26 season on Toronto before being placed on unconditional waivers to terminate his contract in November. As a result, he signed a one-year, $1.1 million deal with Vancouver.
Kampf has recorded six points (2 goals, 4 assists) in 38 games for the Canucks this season. The 31-year-old also has a plus/minus rating of minus-12.
Internationally, Kampf represented Team Czechia in the Winter Olympics, finishing with a goal and three assists. The defensive-minded center looks to serve as Nic Dowd’s replacement on the Capitals.
The Jirkov, Czech Republic native was never drafted, but eventually began his NHL career with Chicago in 2017.
