Brad Marchand proved to be the best acquisition at the NHL trade deadline, proving integral for the Florida Panthers winning the Stanley Cup. With NHL free agency around the corner, Marchand could be headed to another contender.
During an appearance on Leafs Morning Take, Nick Kypreos of Sportsnet.com said that he doesn’t “know how he (Marchand) doesn’t end up as a Maple Leaf” next season.

Marchand dominated during the Stanley Cup Playoffs, recording his highest point total since 2019 and recording double-digit goals for only the second time in his postseason career. The 23-game performance, which included 3 game-winning goals, significantly increased his earning potential in NHL free agency.
With Mitch Marner poised to depart, Toronto is looking to fill that void and it is prioritizing Stanley Cup experience. Marchand, now a two-time champion, would bring that. Toronto would also be one of the most well-positioned contenders to win a bidding war for Marchand.

Marchand is expected to receive several multi-year contract offers this offseason, with proposals coming in north of $8 million per season. Given the Maple Leafs’ historic championship drought, Marchand’s playoff resume and scoring prowess could provide everything the club needs.
However, a return to Florida remains on the table. Marchand suggested during the team’s championship celebration that he wants to remain, but the Panthers are likely to prioritize Sam Bennett and Aaron Ekblad for new contracts.
