Through 23 games this season, the New York Islanders’ offense has been night and day from what we saw a year ago. Yes, they still lack that elite goal scorer, but it hasn’t stopped New York from scoring 3.35 goals per game.

Where the goals have really come have been in third periods, as the New York Islanders have outscored their opponents 35-19 in the final frame.

Their ability to come through in the final frame has been one of the biggest reasons for the 13-8-0 start, as come-from-behind wins have been a trend.

“I feel like it’s just about building our game and being better every period,” New York Islanders forward Anthony Beauvillier said. “Obviously, we want to have good starts, but I feel like as the game goes on, we want to get better and better. We believe in what we can do, and I just feel like sometimes you just have to be patient, and we happen to have a lot of goals in the third.”

Despite the offense being strong, the defensive play in third periods this season has been instrumental in the wins.

The Islanders have allowed, on average, 10 shots on goal this season in the final frame.
