Elmont, NY– Both Brock Nelson and Bo Horvat scored twice, and Ilya Sorokin made two highlight-reel saves, but none of their efforts could save the New York Islanders from allowing four power-play goals to the New Jersey Devils in 5-4 a overtime loss at UBS Arena on Friday night.

Jack Hughes scored his second goal of the evening in overtime to earn the extra point for the Devils.

Dougie Hamilton, Tyler Toffoli, Luke Hughes and Jack Hughes all scored on the man-advantage for New Jersey.

Brock Nelson and Bo Horvat each scored twice

With Pierre Engvall serving a minor penalty for hooking, Jack Hughes connected with Jesper Bratt and Ondrej Palat to beat Sorokin short side. But that goal only came after Sorokin robbed the former No. 1 overall pick with a highlight-reel save.

With the Islanders ahead 1-0 in the first, Sorokin used his patience and flexibility to rob Jack Hughes with a ridiculous glove save.

However, Sorokin couldn’t stop the slap shot that Hamilton put every fiber of his being behind with a minute to go in the first period while Adam Pelech served his first of two penalties in the game.

Casey Cizikas also visited the penalty box twice, and it was his cross-checking infraction in the final seconds of the first that allowed Toffoli to give the Devils a 2-1 lead 21 seconds into the second period.

Even after Nelson tied the game with his second goal of the evening, the Islanders surrendered another power-play goal, this time to Luke Hughes with Pelech back in the box.
