The New York Islanders have a glimmer of hope in making the most season for a fourth straight season due to the fact that goaltending had been as strong as it was during the starts and stops of the season. Even in the losses, either Ilya Sorokin or Semyon Varlamov had made key saves to keep the Islanders alive.

But if the last two games have taught us anything is that the New York Islanders cannot rely on their netminders to be the first stars of the game.

Although Sorokin came up with some big stops in Tuesday’s 4-3 win over the Philadelphia Flyers to keep the game tied and preserve the lead late in the third, he was not his usual self.

It might have been his shakiest performance since his first NHL game, as he looked lost and unsettled throughout. He had a tough night tracking the puck, which made it rather difficult to control his rebounds.

And it was evident early when he tried to control a rebound to a corner, but instead had to freeze because he had lost it in his pads.

Sorokin only faced 17 shots in the contest but allowed two goals on the first four shots that came his way. One shot caught him napping just 90 seconds into the contest, while the other took a deflection off his defenseman.
