Over the last two days, the New York Islanders added a player to make their roster stronger as well as added five players to their prospect pool, a prospect pool that was rather slim. One thing that Lamoriello was unable to do was shed salary cap space, which does not mean that he won’t–it just hasn’t happened yet.

There are reports left and right, up and down, regarding certain New York Islanders and if they are being shopped. I can only share what I’ve heard so here it is.

Let’s start with Anthony Beauvillier.

The 25-year-old forward is not coming off a strong season, as many Islanders, with just 12 goals and 23 assists. Given his age, potential, and the two years of control remaining on his deal at $4.12 M annually, he seemed like a trade chip Lamoriello could use in a package deal, potentially for a defenseman.

However, NYI Hockey Now has learned that Anthony Beauvillier is not going anywhere.

It makes sense now, given the acquisition of defenseman Alexander Romanov from the Montreal Canadiens for the 13th overall pick in the 2022 NHL Draft. The Islanders now have shored up their defense, with just one hole to plug for now on the left side of Scott Mayfield–-unless management believes Robin Salo can fill that spot.

Now, onto Semyon Varlamov.

Lou Lamoriello has repeatedly said that he values the tandem of Semyon Varlamov and Ilya Sorokin immensely. He kept Varlamov through the 2022 NHL Trade Deadline, despite their being teams actively trying to acquire the 34-year-old backstop.
