Is Shane Lachance on the New Jersey Devils’ opening night roster? According to Arthur Staple, he is.

Staple’s relatively new to the Devils beat, but by no means is he new to working in the NHL. A well-respected journalist like him can be trusted, and it makes sense that Lachance sticks around if Noesen isn’t ready to go.

In the links, the Devils are in jeopardy of losing a valuable goaltender on waivers.

Elsewhere, roster projections, New York’s success fall’s on their goaltender, and San Jose/Detroit make room for the kids.

Let’s do that hockey.

Devils Trade Rumors & News

New Jersey Hockey Now: The preseason is concluded, and the regular season is around the corner. We predicted the Devils’ opening night roster & lineup here.

More NJHN: One of the players who we predicted wouldn’t be on the roster—which doesn’t come as a surprise due to the depth chart—is Nico Daws. It’s an unfortunate circumstance, as Daws is no longer waiver exempt. Yesterday, the Devils put him on the wire. Today, we’ll find out if he’s been scooped up by another team, as whispers indicted that just might be the case.

NHL Trade Talk, News, & National Hockey Now

Boston Hockey Now: The Boston Bruins predictably waived Michael DiPietro, one of the other goaltenders that’s been whispered as a waiver claim in recent weeks. However, they also reassigned one of their young pieces that’s expected to be a big part of their future in a disappointing development.

Pittsburgh Hockey Now: Here’s an interesting projection. The Pittsburgh Penguins are going to look a bit different this year. They’ll still have their core as they’ll seemingly play forever [small joke], but there’s an injection of youth that very well may be present for most of the 2025-26 season.

San Jose Hockey Now: Speaking of a youth movement, the San Jose Sharks are well underway with theirs. In fact, they’re ensuring they’ll be able to play even more of them, acquiring the dead contract the Philadelphia Flyers formerly owned, trading Ryan Ellis to the Sharks. Now, they’ll be able to roster Michael Misa and Sam Dickinson.

Colorado Hockey Now: The Colorado Avalanche are another team who are coming back into the 2025-26 season looking similar. A few adds, but nothing back page worthy. One thing of note, however. An ex-Devils prospect who was basically thrown away is projected to make the roster.

Detroit Hockey Now: The Detroit Red Wings made the tough decision to cut some veterans for their exciting prospects coming through the pipeline. Motor City is gonna look a bit younger this season.

Chicago Hockey Now: Matt Grzelcyk has converted on his professional tryout contract. The veteran defenseman inked a one-year deal with the Chicago Blackhawks.

Forever Blueshirts: Here’s why the New York Rangers‘ success flows through goaltender Igor Shesterkin.
