Yes, it’s August 5th and the New Jersey Devils don’t have Luke Hughes signed to a deal yet. No, it’s not time to panic. Plenty, including myself, don’t see any reason why this shouldn’t get done before training camp. It’s a new, evolving market. The cap is rising, and a lot more than some anticipated. Everyone’s restless, and starving for news, I get it. Perhaps, Luke’s brother has had an impact on those negotiations, indirectly. More on that in the links.

Pittsburgh Hockey Now: It’s now common knowledge that the Pittsburgh Penguins are for sale. There’s a long-standing rumor that Mario Lemieux and Co. are among the interested parties to purchase. However, Elliotte Friedman reports Lemuiex’s bid to buy them back isn’t close.
The Athletic ($): Speaking of the Penguins, after Nick Robertson’s new contract was filed with the Toronto Maple Leafs, it reignited trade speculation. Toronto has a surplus, and many, including Friedman and fellow insider, Chris Johnston, are pointing Robertson in Pittsburgh’s direction.
Florida Hockey Now: Remember when Sergei Bobrovsky was “grossly overpaid?” Me neither. However, that contract is coming to an end, entering the final season if his current contract. So, what could a new one look like for the soon 37-year-old Florida Panthers netminder?
Forever Blueshirts: The new coaching staff of the New York Rangers, Mike Sullivan and former head coach, returning as an associate, David Quinn, are pegged as the X-Factors for a rebound on Broadway. One analyst believes they’re already steps ahead in the process.
