The New Jersey Devils have signed forward Thomas Bordeleau to a one-year, two-way contract. The team announced the contract on Thursday morning.

Bordeleau’s contract is worth $775,000 at the NHL level and $100,000 at the American Hockey League (AHL) level with $125,000 guaranteed. He will be a restricted free agent with arbitration rights on July 1st, 2026.

In a Devils trade with the San Jose Sharks, New Jersey acquired Bordeleau in exchange for former first round pick, Shane Bowers.

Bordeleau is a candidate to compete for NHL minutes in New Jersey’s training camp, with 44 games of NHL experience under his belt already. In that span, he’s accrued six goals and 12 assists for 18 points.

In 2023-24, Bordeleau began to showcase his upside, scoring all six of his goals and 11 points in 27 games. The soon 24-year-old forward played one NHL game last season.

Before his professional hockey career, Bordeleau played in the NCAA at the University of Michigan from 2020-21 to 2021-22, where he was teammates with Devils defensemen, Luke Hughes and Ethan Edwards.

In 2020-21, Bordeleau was honored as Big Ten Freshman of the Year, leading all NCAA freshmen with 30 points (8 goals, 22 assists) in 24 games. His +18 plus/minus rating placed him sixth among Big Ten skaters. He also received the 2020-21 Tim Taylor Award, recognizing the nation’s top collegiate rookie, and contributed to Michigan’s Big Ten championship the next season. Originally from Houston, Texas, he averaged over a point per game in college, amassing 67 points (20 goals, 47 assists) in 61 games.

Luke Hughes is the lone free agent remaining on the Devils who needs a contract.
