The New Jersey Devils were off yesterday following their Monday night victory over the Minnesota Wild. The pair of wins is encouraging, giving Devils fans a reason to believe in the team again, as their spot in the Stanley Cup Playoffs is all but solidified.

They’ll be back on the ice today at 11:15 A.M.

In the links, you have to see this analytics video I was tagged in yesterday. Kudos to the creator, it’s some dedicated work.

Elsewhere, Rick Tocchet’s uncertain future, Trey Augustine pumps Detroit breaks, and Matvei Michkov’s recent rise.

Let’s do that hockey.

Devils News

I thought this was fantastic. X user, @belsyyyy creates an annual report for the “Lost an Edge Award,” tracking which players fall the most each month.

It’s not just your basic trip over the blueline statistic, however. There’s real data here! @belsyyyy records findings such as blocked shots which prove to be valuable. If you’d ask me, I’d bet on a Hughes brother to be the “Fall King” any given month. But, not for the month of March.

Give this a watch, you won’t regret it.

NHL Trade Talk, News, & National Hockey Now

Philly Hockey Now: As it currently stands, there’s no clear-cut leader for the Calder Trophy by the end of the season. However, Matvei Michkov has recently seen an uptick in his play, and is making a serious case for winning the best rookie award.

Detroit Hockey Now: The Detroit Red Wings have a stud in the making between the pipes. Trey Augustine is one of the top rising goaltending prospects in the NHL. The Red Wings can’t wait to get their hands on him, but he’s informed them they’ll need to wait at least one more season.

Pittsburgh Hockey Now: So, now that the Pittsburgh Penguins have committed to the… “retool?” “Rebuild?” Whatever it is, they’re skating their young guys for the rest of the season. So even though we’re getting an early look at some new players, what will the Penguins look like in 2025-26?

Sportsnet: Rick Tocchet is still under contract with the Vancouver Cancuks. In fact, he’s in the midst of a playoff race where his team is not mathematically eliminated and close enough to sneak in. Still, the rumors swirl of a potential departure at the end of the season with many wanting to see Tocchet behind the Philadelphia Flyers bench. Yet, the Canucks say not so fast, they’re determined to retain their head coach.
