NJHN Daily: Pietrangelo Withdraws from 4 Nations, Devils Defense Replacement?

Alex Pietrangelo withdrawing from the 4 Nations Face-Off is certainly interesting. There’s no penalty for doing so like there is in the All-Star Game. Therefore, it raises the question is the New Jersey Devils might want to approach the tournament the same way. Jack Hughes is nicked up and Erik Haula is legitimately injured. Perhaps, they should just take the two weeks to rest.

In the same breath, could Dougie Hamilton replace Pietrangelo on Team Canada? It wasn’t long ago that Hamilton would have been a lock for international play. He’s certainly one of the best available options to provide offense from the blueline for Canada. It’s likely he’ll be in consideration, however, the spot does feel somewhat reserved for Drew Doughty. Time will tell.

Elsewhere, could Chicago circle back on Mikko Rantanen this summer? The new guys in Colorado have acclimated quickly. And how would an Elias Pettersson acquisition impact Philly?
