In an excellent development for the team, Jack Hughes is back for the New Jersey Devils. With his availability for the first time since being injured, he was able to speak on his incident, and reacted to his brother being traded.

Quinn Hughes was traded to the Minnesota Wild in exchange for a massive package that included Marco Rossi, Zeev Buium, Liam Ohgren, and a 2026 first-round pick that went to the Vancouver Canucks.

The Devils were in the midst of trade talks from the very start, and it’s expected some sort of package with the likes of Simon Nemec, Dawson Mercer, and draft picks were offered.

However, the Canucks took the Wild offer, and the eldest Hughes brother remained West.

Asked about his instant reaction, and Hughes said it all came to fruition quickly.

“Yeah, it happened fast,” Hughes said to the Devils media. “I think he’s happy in Minnesota now. They have a great team and are playing well. But, it definitely happened fast.”

Knowing the Devils were in the mix for his brother, Jack explained it was a bit of a letdown Quinn ended up elsewhere.

“Um, a little bit,” Hughes said when asked if he was disappointed it wasn’t New Jersey. “But, I mean, you knew there was a likelihood it probably wasn’t going to be New Jersey because there are 30 other teams outside New Jersey and Vancouver. I’m sure he’s excited to be in Minnesota now and be on a good team. We’re happy for him.”

In four games since Quinn arrived in Minnesota, the Wild are 4-0-0. Quinn’s scored a goal and two assists for three points in that span.

Elliotte Friedman confirmed the Devils had at least one trade vetoed, if not two. Recently, Dougie Hamilton and Ondrej Palat’s name have been discussed in Devils trade rumors.

When asked by New Jersey Hockey Now is Hamilton recently vetoed a trade or was asked to waive, he avoided the question.
