NHL Trade Talk, News & National Hockey Now

Some breaking news early this morning as the coaching carousel continues. The Edmonton Oilers are joining the head coach search after firing Kris Knoblauch:

The Athletic ($): The Minnesota Wild are reeling with “anger and frustration” following their Game 5 loss to the Colorado Avalanche which has eliminated them from the Stanley Cup Playoffs.

Said elimination has Devils fans salivating out of the mouth for Quinn Hughes. He has one year left on his contract and is eligible to extend on July 1st. What will he decide to do? Devils fans are hoping it works out in their favor.

Colorado Hockey Now: Speaking of the Colorado Avalanche, here’s how they finally found the playoff path they wanted after eliminating the Wild.

NYI Hockey Now: I know he was first on my ballot. But he was first on everyone else’s, too. By unanimous decision, New York Islanders defenseman Matthew Schaefer is the 2026 Calder Trophy recipient as the NHL’s most proficient in the league.

The Athletic ($): We throw around “generational talent” a lot these days. A lot of it is unfounded. But, not with Schaefer. Just ask his generational predecessor’s.

Forever Blueshirts: When it comes to Alexis Lafreniere, here’s the uncomfortable reality the New York Rangers forward must live with.

Pittsburgh Hockey Now: If the Pittsburgh Penguins are going to build on this season and try to come back even more competitive with their core three next year, here are four trade targets they could pursue this offseason.

Florida Hockey Now: Sergei Bobrovsky is far from a lock to return to the Florida Panthers next season. So who will tend their twine next season?

Philly Hockey Now: The Philadelphia Flyers online drama between Matvei Michkov and Rick Tocchet seems overblown by the fans. Tocchet talked about Michkov, his Game 4 scratch, and “letting him breathe.”

Montreal Hockey Now: As fun and exciting the Montreal Canadiens are amid their playoff success, they could really use one more impact veteran.

Toronto Hockey Now: If the Toronto Maple Leafs do, in fact, trade Auston Matthews, don’t sleep on this team to be aggressive and try to acquire him.
