The New Jersey Devils are retiring their black third jersey, better known as the “Jersey Jersey,” after the 2025-26 season. However, there is a new alternate uniform coming in 2026-27.

According to Sportslogos, the NHL has filed a trademark on the phrase “Hometown Remix” as it’s next jersey initiative, which is believed to be similar to the two prvious Reverse Retro uniforms league-wide.

Unconfirmed reports state that although the Devils are retiring their black third jersey, another black alternate will take it’s place in 2026-27.

Fans have speculated ever since the Stadium Series in 2024 if the Devils would revive the outdoor uniform with the Devils silhouette. However, in black as opposed to the previous red uniform.

The Devils debuted the black third Jersey jersey in 2021 as their first full-time alternate. They announced the jersey retirement by the end of 2025-26 via the “Jersey Jersey Goodbye Tour,” wearing the uniform for the final 11 times this season.

New Jersey’s previous two uniforms incentivized by the NHL’s Reverse Retro program restored historic looks to the Devils.

In 2021-22, the Devils’ first Reverse Retro uniform was green-based with red and white accents. It was a call back to their initial uniforms when the franchise was born in 1982, worn through 1992 before the Devils’ main colors became red and black.

And in 2022-23, the Devils’ white-based uniform with red, blue, and yellow accents—coined the “Burger King” jerseys—is a callback to the Colorado Rockies, where the Devils’ franchise originated before they moved to New Jersey.

The Devils also wore a Heritage Jersey, a modernized version of their first-ever uniform, from 2010-2017, and then introduced a white version in 2018.

With 25 games left in 2025-26, the Devils will wear their current black alternate three more times on March 12th, 14th, and April 12th.

Then, Jack Hughes, Nico Hischier, and Co. will sport new black alternates beginning in 2026-27.
