Canadiens Add Two More Players To Busy NHL Waiver Wire

The Montreal Canadiens announced they have put two more players on waivers.

The move comes on the heels of a much larger round of training camp cuts, which included loaning 2023 first-round pick David Reinbacher to his NL team, EHC Kloten.

Both Lias Andersson and Philippe Maillet were placed on waivers with the purpose of re-assigning them to the team’s AHL affiliate, the Laval Rocket, leaving 31 players at camp.

The four players that were put on waivers Saturday, Nicolas Beaudin, Brady Keeper, Lucas Condotta, and Mitchell Stephens were not claimed and will consequently report to Laval.

Unsurprisingly, 2019 first-round pick Lassi Thomson, who was placed on waivers by the Ottawa Senators yesterday, was quick to be claimed by the Anaheim Ducks.

The Ducks have the No.1 spot on the NHL’s waiver-wire priority list.

In addition to Thomson being claimed, there was a rather long list of players placed on waivers by their respective NHL teams.

For now, the off-season priority list is locked in and will give teams that finished lower in the standings last year the first opportunity to claim a player that is placed on waivers.

For example, the Montreal Canadiens finished 28th last year, therefore they are the team with the fifth highest priority on the NHL’s waiver wire list. Teams have 24 hours to make a claim.

The off-season list will remain in place until November 1, when it will switch from using last season’s standings to this year’s standings to determine priority.

Simply put, the Canadiens will maintain the fifth-best position on the waiver wire priority list for at least a month. The Anaheim Ducks will maintain the No.1 spot on the list until November 1, as well.
