There is good news on the horizon for the Carolina Hurricanes, as Brandon Bussi’s stay in Raleigh is all but certain to last much longer than this season, per a report from The Fourth Period’s David Pagnotta.
It doesn’t come as a surprise, as he has started his career by breaking long-standing records, such as becoming the fastest goaltender in NHL history to 10 wins after playing just 11 games, as well as subsequent ‘fastest goalie to…’ records.
During Saturday’s episode of “The Hot Stove” on SiriusXM NHL Network Radio, Pagnotta reported that Bussi’s camp and the Hurricanes front office have engaged in discussions about a contract extension.
“It’s not done yet,” Pagnotta said. “But the two sides are working towards that. Everything I’ve been told is that things are positive, and it looks like it will get there.”
It is unknown when the rumored extension will be signed, but there will be plenty of time to get things done during the Hurricanes’ four-day break and the upcoming Olympic break.
Bussi has recently gained league-wide attention in his two latest games versus the Buffalo Sabres and Ottawa Senators, where he was credited both times by teammates as the reason for the wins. As a 27-year-old rookie, he has already tied Cam Ward for the franchise record of longest winning streak in a season, with nine.
