Monday, it was announced that the Carolina Hurricanes would participate in the 2026 NHL Global Series for the first time since the event’s inception in 2017. The overseas trip will take them to the home of sauteed reindeer and Nokia to face the Seattle Kraken in Helsinki, Finland.
The Hurricanes will play both games next season against the Kraken in Finland, with the first being on November 12th at 12 PM EST (7 PM local time), and the second on November 14th at 1 PM EST (8 PM local time). Both games will be played in Helsinki’s Veikkaus Arena, home of SM-Liiga’s Jokerit.
If that team sounds familiar to you, it is likely because of long-time Hurricanes player Teuvo Teravainen. In 2023, he joined the ownership group to help return the team to the Finnish league after nearly 10 seasons in the KHL.
Though it will be the first time this generation of Hurricanes have played an NHL game in Finland, it won’t be the first for the franchise.
During the 2010 NHL Premiere series, the Hurricanes played the Minnesota Wild in the very same building (then called Hartwall Areena), where they won both games.
Additionally, two other games have been announced for the 2026 Global Series, which will see the Chicago Blackhawks versus the Ottawa Senators in Düsseldorf, Germany, on December 18th and 20th.
