The NHL seems to have a curse this season, considering all of the injuries league-wide, and the Carolina Hurricanes have been right there with the rest. Thankfully, it sounds as though the Hurricanes will get some reprieve with Shayne Gostisbehere’s return.

After he attended his second consecutive practice Thursday, Rod Brind’Amour confirmed that he expects Gostisbehere to return for the game against the Utah Mammoth after missing five consecutive games due to a groin injury.

Gostisbehere has been a crucial piece for the Hurricanes since he returned to the team in summer 2024, and despite his 17 games absence over the course of this season, remains the pillar of offense on the blueline.

This season, Gostisbehere leads all Hurricanes defensemen in points, with 32. For reference, second place on that list is K’Andre Miller, who has tallied 22 points.

As the Hurricanes’ power play has grown stagnant since he was injured; hardly increasing or decreasing, it will be a breath of fresh air to see the top unit’s quarterback return to action.
