Just a few days after Washington Redskins offensive tackle Trent Williams reported back to the team and revealed he had a cancerous growth that the team “did nothing about”, the saga took another turn on Sunday morning.

Following the team’s request for an independent investigation into Williams’ medical records and care, the NFL Players Association released a statement in support of Williams and slamming the NFL Network for spreading misinformation about him.

In the statement, the NFLPA says that the league’s network broadcasted false information with the intent only to damage Williams’ reputation.

The NFLPA also stated that if Washington’s push to have Williams’ medical records reviewed continues, it will consider potential action of its own against the team on his behalf.

It already appeared unlikely that Williams would ever play for Washington again. Now with the NFLPA’s statement taking direct shots at NFL Network and threatening legal action, this situation now appears to be getting even uglier.
