Stefon Diggs, the former New England Patriots WR1, has been in the headlines lately after getting cut loose by the team, for both the right and wrong reasons. Even at 32 and coming off a torn ACL, Diggs still put up a 1,000-yard season and clearly operated as the Patriots’ top target in the passing game last year. Not many expected that kind of bounce-back campaign, but Diggs proved he still has plenty of juice left in the tank.

After a shortened 2024 season, he came back strong, reeling in 85 of 102 targets for 1,013 yards and four touchdowns. Those are legit WR1 numbers in any offense. Now we’re nearing the end of Week 2 of NFL free agency, and while most big names have already found new homes, a few surprising players are still sitting on the board.

Stefon Diggs is one of the biggest names still waiting for a call. And there’s probably a pretty clear reason why.

Why Stefon Diggs Remains Unsigned in Free Agency

Stefon Diggs’ off-field drama — including alleged infidelity and lawsuits — has fueled plenty of speculation among fans about whether his messy personal life played a role in the Patriots moving on from him. But as of now, neither the Patriots nor Diggs himself has addressed any of those rumors. Is Diggs being ignored in the NFL Free agency?

Diggs is 32 and heading into Year 12, and that alone can cool his market a bit. Add in the fact that he’s not quite the same explosive route-runner anymore, and it’s easier to see why teams are hesitant to bite.

The four-time Pro Bowler still produces, but he likely wasn’t living up to that hefty cap hit in New England, which made the numbers tough to justify. And in today’s league, front offices are usually chasing younger, cheaper WR talent, especially when it comes to long-term deals. Put it all together, and it’s not shocking Diggs is still waiting for his next landing spot.

Stefon Diggs stats: 85 catches, 1,013 yards, 4 touchdowns, 11.9 yards per catch

For the moment, Diggs seems locked in on free agency mode. His agents have already put the word out around the league, letting teams know the veteran wideout is open to all sorts of options. There’s been buzz about multiple franchises kicking the tires, but nothing concrete has surfaced yet.

Franchises such as the Baltimore Ravens, Washington Commanders, and the Houston Texans have been touted as potential landing spots for Diggs. Interestingly, last week, Patriots executive Eliot Wolf didn’t completely shut the door on a potential reunion with the 32-year-old.

So yes, there’s still a slim chance Diggs could suit up in Patriots colors again next season. But if that happens, it likely comes with a significant pay cut and a smaller role in the offense. Either way, Diggs’ stint in New England will go down as a memorable chapter — a key piece of what became the most successful Patriots squad of the post-Tom Brady era.
