Ashton Gillotte just secured a long-term deal — and this one won’t count against the Chiefs’ salary cap.

The Kansas City defensive end and former Louisville standout revealed on Monday that he has married longtime partner Cara Cresse, turning a college-athlete connection into a full-fledged love story. The pair, both former Cardinals, shared the surprise wedding news on Instagram as Gillotte prepares for his second season in Kansas City after being drafted No. 66 overall in 2025.

The newly minted Mr. and Mrs. Gillotte broke the news with a joint Instagram post, revealing they quietly made things official and still have a bigger celebration on the calendar for next May.

“Surprise! We got married!” the couple wrote alongside photos captured by Kentucky photographer Liv Coke. “We had our dear families alongside us for the sweetest ceremony and celebration. Our new favorite day! Can’t wait to celebrate with even more of our loved ones next May! Mr. & Mrs. Gillotte. 05.23.2026.”

For the intimate outdoor ceremony, Cresse rocked a classic white gown paired with a lace-trimmed veil, while Gillotte traded his football pads for a beige suit, tying his signature long hair back in a ponytail. The pair exchanged vows beneath a flower-covered arch overlooking a golf course.

Just a few months after getting engaged in February, the former Louisville standouts officially called the winning play on May 23.

Gillotte, who was a force on Louisville’s defensive front from 2021-24 before landing with the Chiefs, is preparing for his second NFL season in Kansas City. Meanwhile, Cresse, one of the most decorated blockers in Cardinals volleyball history, is continuing her pro career with the Indy Ignite after re-signing with the team earlier this week.

The announcement quickly drew reactions from both sides of the couple’s sports world. The Chiefs’ official account chimed in with, “Congratulations!! ❤️,” while the Indy Ignite added, “Gorgeous!! Congratulations!!!!! 🔥.”

The wedding news comes after a whirlwind few months for the couple. They celebrated their one-year anniversary on Feb. 11, got engaged shortly afterward, and have now officially become teammates for life. As for Cresse, her professional squad even joined the fun when announcing her return to Indy, posting: “Said ‘I do’ to us, too,” complete with a ring emoji.

And while the marriage paperwork is already signed, the victory lap isn’t over yet. The newlyweds confirmed they’ll be hosting a larger celebration with family and friends next May.
