The 2026 NFL Draft kicks off next Thursday, on April 23. That’s when the Washington Commanders, barring a trade, will be using the seventh overall pick in the first round on one of this year’s top talents.

Many draft experts expect the Commanders to target a prospect at a specific position, such as an edge rusher, receiver, or defensive back. However, there are other talented prospects who could be in play.

Acording to Essentially Sports’ NFL insider Tony Pauline, the Commanders also “love” Notre Dame running back prospect Jeremiyah Love.

“Several people tell me the team will jump all over Jeremiyah Love if he falls into their laps, with the direct quote being, “The team loves Love.” He’d be an additional weapon for Jayden Daniels, who’s coming off an injury-plagued season, and would end Washington’s running-back-by-committee approach. He has the potential to upgrade the offense instantly, but the Commanders can only get him if he makes it out of the top five.”

A lot of teams are big fans of Love heading into the draft. He’s the top-ranked player on several draft boards. The problem is, only one team will get him, and Love may not slip to the seventh pick, where Washington is slated to pick.

The Commanders have just six selections in the NFL Draft, meaning they don’t really have the draft capital to move up for Love, unless Washington is ready to part with players and/or future draft compensation too. Love is expected to be a top-five pick, but there are several teams likely wishing he could slip a bit further, and Washington appears to be one of them.
